Everything you need to know about ABA and Autism

What is ABA?

Behavior analysis is the evidenced-based science behind how all behaviors are learned and maintained.  Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the application of this science in real life.  It has been empirically shown to be effective in a wide variety of areas, including parent training, substance abuse treatment, dementia management, brain injury rehabilitation, occupational safety intervention, and others. However, because ABA was first applied to the treatment of individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism, this practice area has the largest evidence base and has received the most recognition. (Information taken from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Nov. 13, 2018)

ABA and Autism

Many of the clients we serve have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Autism is a developmental disorder that causes challenges for an individual such as with socialization, communication, behavioral challenges, and challenges with skill acquisition. As a spectrum, each individual diagnosed with ASD experiences their own unique challenges. This is why an individualized treatment approach is critical for supporting our clients.

The process

After an individual receives an ASD diagnosis, it can be difficult to know where to start. To the right is a slide deck presenting the general steps that parents, caregivers, or diagnosed individuals can take to begin the treatment process.

If you’re ready to get started, complete and submit our referral form!
